RESPONSIBILITIES OF MANAGER
John. F. Mee describes the
management as the art of securing maximum
results with a minimum of effort, so as to secure maximum prosperity and
happiness for both employer, and employee, and give the public, the best
possible service.
This definition indicates the social
responsibilities of manager towards : -
(a)
Employer (share holders); (b) employees (workers); (C) public (consumers, and society).
Thus, management is responsible for protecting the interest
of-
(A) The share
holders (owners)
(B) The
employees (workers)
(C) The
consumers and
(D) The
society

(A) Responsibilities to Owners (Shareholders)-
The responsibilities of management towards the share holders
as follows:
1. Full use
of Resources : The management must ensure optimum use of all the
available resources like, money, men, materials machinery etc.
2. Growth
and Expansion: Management has to devise a Long- range planning for
the future growth and expansion of the enterprise to ensure continued progress
and prosperity.
3. Solvency
and Stability: Management is responsible for maintaining the solvency
and stability of the organization by effective and efficient utilization of
resources.
4. Fair
Dividend: Management should assure the fair return on the
amount invested by the shareholders.
5. Execution
of Plans: It is the responsibility of the management to execute
the plans and policies decided by the Top executives.
(B) Responsibilities to Employees-
The responsibilities of management towards employees are as follows:
1. Job
Security: Management should protect the interest of employees
by assuring them the security and stability of the employment.
2. Good
Working Environment: Proper ventilation, lighting, drinking water
facilities, canteen facilities are to be provided by the management to increase
the efficiency of the workers.
3. Role in
Management: Management should give the scope to the employees to take
part in the decision making process. This would boost the morale of the
employees.
4.
Protection to Life: It is the responsibility of the management to protect
the workers from the industrial hazards like accident, sickness, old age,
retirement etc.
5.
Incentives: In order to motivate subordinates for higher productivity,
management should provide incentives in the form of bonus, timely increase in
wages, promotion etc.
6. Fair
Wages: It is the responsibility of the Management to pay fair wages to
the workers, at least to meet their basic needs and living wages.
(C) Responsibilities towards Consumers-
The responsibilities of management towards consumers are:
1. Regular
Supply of Quality Goods: Management should protect the interest of
customers by regularly supplying standard quality goods and services.
2. After
Sale Service: It is the responsibility of the management to make necessary
arrangement for providing service after the sale, of certain types of goods
such as electrical and electronic goods etc.
3. Best
Quality of Goods and Services: It is the responsibility of the
management to supply better quality goods and services at reasonable prices to
consumers continuously.
(D) Responsibilities towards the Society-
The responsibilities of management towards the society are
as follows:
1.
Generation of Employment: Management should provide ample employment
opportunities to the society.
2. Building
Reputation and Status: Management should build up good will of the firm
among the society. This they can achieve by assuming fair return to investors,
providing better and cheaper goods to consumers, better wages to workers and
higher standard of living to the society.
3. Raising
Standard of Living of People: It is the social responsibility of the
management to provide better standard of living to society by supplying quality
goods at fair prices.
